Next Generation Spreadsheet

Arguably, the most widely used Business Intelligence tool is the desktop spreadsheet.   It is easy-to-use and versatile. It’s also been around for 30 years.  First generation desktop spreadsheets are being stretched well beyond their practical limits.   eiVia is the next generation online spreadsheet.  It is an extension of the data warehouse.

eiVia’s spreadsheet is a browser accessible spreadsheet-like interface that is tied to a server-based processing engine and linked to the data warehouse. Unlike desktop spreadsheets, there is no downloading of large data files and no analytic processing on the desktop. eiVia consolidates data originated in applications in the same data warehouse that supports reporting.  eiVia’s online, virtual spreadsheet can accommodate analysis of the hundreds of millions of rows of data maintained in a data warehouse.

The key to eiVia’s technology is its ability to maintain the multidimensional and hierarchical referential integrity of the underlying database. Desktop spreadsheets maintain the spatial integrity of data stored in rows and columns (two dimensions) of a spreadsheet. eiVia maintains database referential integrity across multiple database dimensions and at every hierarchical level within each database dimension. eiVia maintains referential integrity across the hundreds of millions of rows of data that are stored in the data warehouse.

All the user needs is a URL and pasword. The only data downloaded to the desktop is the page that is displayed.  There are no computations performed on the desktop.  Applications, developed using eiVia’s technology, are more secure, accurate, consistent, transparent and scalable than those developed using a first generation desktop spreadsheet.  eiVia supports data collection, consolidation and collaboration that are essential to supporting business processes and work flows.
